The purpose of this class wiki is to provide an additional resource for my English 11, English 12, College English, and Journalism students at Fort Calhoun Senior High School in Fort Calhoun, NE.
My goal is to develop active, engaged learners.
In my English 11 and 12 classes, students will explore literature through a critical lens in a variety of mediums, take on projects that puts them in the driver's seat of their learning, and know what good writing is through learning and doing.
College English students will write a variety of compositions, utilize a writing process, become proficient with MLA writing style, know one can never proofread enough, and appreciate that writing can be an excellent, powerful medium to articulate one's passions and knowledge.
Journalism has a different classroom environment since the nature of the course is set up like a newsroom. This is a student-run paper; their pride and joy. I serve as the adviser, educating, guiding, and pushing the students to produce the best publication they can. The goal for this class is to also incorporate more technology: news blog, podcasts, online newspaper - technology is the future of news media.
Most importantly, I strive for my students to have a connection with and ownership of their learning. I aim for them to have the skills and knowledge to be successful life-long learners. I have high expectations. I will push. It's nothing less than what my students deserve.
